Microsoft has released the educational version of Minecraft, its blocky game Minecraft to Chromebooks just in time to allow students to go back to school.

The Minecraft: Education Edition for Chromebook is out on Monday. It comes with the same features of the Windows and iPad versions, including multiplayer across platforms according to the company. The version geared towards education is designed to assist educators in teaching everything, from science technology engineering and mathematics (STEM), to history, language, and art. According to Microsoft the program has been licensed by thousands across 115 countries.

In addition, it will be available on Chromebooks, Microsoft said the most recent update to the game includes new STEM lessons and "a special Minecraft world created in conjunction with the American Beekeeping Federation's Kids and Bees program."

Minecraft: Education Edition for Chromebook requires the use of a Microsoft account to log in and play the game. It's licensed by schools via Microsoft 365 for Education -- but the company said it's working to let users sign in using an account on Google account as well.
